Theri Morulane is an award-winning broadcaster gifted with a euphonious voice. Not one to rely on the aesthetics of her silver-toned articulation, Theri understands that what is said is equally important to how it is said. With a belief that the voice is the most potent magic of one’s existence, her message is one of discovering and fulfilling of ones divine essence through the free expression of this spirit in all walks of life. Her Talks With Theri podcast is one such vehicle for expression where she invites the unearthing and fulfilment of purpose through personal responsibility and social engagement.
Her broadcast journey started humbly in 2017 at PUKfm. She concluded a 2-year stint as news reader and radio presenter commendably with a Liberty Radio Award in the campus category for the best daytime show for her show “PUKFM LUNCH”. She cut her teeth at the campus radio station learning how to control the broadcast desk, research and coordinate recommendations to producers, developing show content and all things related to radio broadcast. The commitment to radio gradually grew to a passion for the medium, but passion would have eventually to take a back seat to her pursuit of higher education.
Her journey exploring an enthusiasm for broadcast was closely accompanied by all the demanding expectations of a student at North-West University. In 2018, she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences majoring in Psychology and Anthropology with distinctions. The curiosity for the essence of self and its place in a sociocultural context would see her further her studies at the University of Cape Town. She completed her honours in anthropology at UCT in 2019 with a thesis that analysed the phenomena of identity development through a digital world, titled, “The Politics of Representation through Social Media: Platforms for Identity Formation and African Diasporic Consciousness”.
Although her corporate journey is in its adolescence, she has engineered and implemented it in such a manner that her experience and learnings from the game outweigh her actual time in the game. Her work experience is anchored in financial services with the current chapter of her career seeing her ply her trade as a Customer Success Analyst at Europe’s leading payment services provider for the digital asset economy. With a passion for people, a future-focused vision and having started financial trading in high school, it only made sense that ended up in a people-facing role at an organisation at the bleeding edge of financial systems – cryptocurrency.
Theri is also a public speaker and digital content creator who has hosted multiple private events and worked with a variety of brands and organisations. The epitome of these collaborations includes taking part in the Ackermans #IAmMe body-positivity advertising campaign, hosting the socio-political geek and fandom culture web-series, Comic Book Karaoke, and being one of the official panel speakers at Comic Con Africa exploring the role of diversity and representation in popular culture.
